Next Public Meeting Announced for Richardson-Olmsted Complex

The next Richardson Olmsted Complex public meeting is Wednesday, April 16th at 6 PM at the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society, 25 Nottingham Court in Buffalo. Reports at this meeting will focus on findings and recommendations of the Historic Structures and Cultural Landscape reports. Members of the RCC Board and staff will also provide updates on stabilization work at the Complex and will discuss the master planning work now beginning, both for the entire complex and for the Architecture and Visitor Center.

Planning for the Complex reuse is steadily moving along. Goody Clancy is on schedule to complete the Historic Structures and Cultural Landscape reports by June, 2008. A complex-wide master plan will soon be underway, with consultants slated to be chosen before the public meeting. Planning for the Architecture and Visitor Center has also progressed. More information on all these efforts will be available at the April public meeting.

Stabilization work has progressed at the Complex. Roof repairs are underway on Building 39, the second building east of Rees Street. Building 39 has a slate roof that was greatly deteriorated with holes that are being patched. The repairs will help to delay water damage to the brick walls and interior.

The connector link between Buildings 39 and 40 is also the focus of attention. An engineering firm has evaluated the link and is preparing construction documents that will lead to stabilizing the connector from further collapse. Design work is also underway to protect further deterioration at Building 43, the former kitchen building located behind the central twin towers building. An electrical survey was completed and the RCC Board is working on a plan to reconnect electricity. This will enable the installation of lighting and smoke and heat detection systems.
